I am Nikala Asante, a homeschooling mom, writer, artist, and educator. Outside of teaching my own son, I hold classes in my community (French, Art, and Africana Studies currently) and Creative Writing Workshops around the state of Texas.
As a writer, I have published two books which you can find out more about at nikalaasante.com.
As an educator, I find that it is very important to have culturally relevant curriculum in all subjects. While learning French, students can read the poetry of Aime Cesaire. During Science, they can learn about the many inventions of George Washington Carver. In Math, they can study the “Pythagorean” Theorem in terms of the pyramids. Put simply, African people have made significant contributions in all disciplines and should not be limited to a handful of trivia questions during “Black History Month”. Black Homeschool Mom is my attempt to provide a wide array diverse resources for educators.
